3 Mum Tips for Babies During This Coronavirus Pandemic - Precious April

The novel coronavirus disease, more commonly known as COVID-19, is one of the largest and exponentially growing problems around the world since the year started. The fear and anxiety of this whole situation have spread even to the residential areas, with mothers cradling their children and babies from the threat of this new strain of the virus. As terrifying as the current state of the world is, there are several precautions that mothers can take to keep their babies safe.

In this article, we will share with you three simple mum tips to help prepare and protect your children from COVID-19:

Implement social distancing

With the implementation of stricter quarantine or lockdown procedures in Australia, staying home and avoiding contact with the outside is still the best strategy to combat the pandemic. If you absolutely need to leave the house, then maintain a healthy distance away from other people. Avoid crowded areas, parties, congregations, or any gatherings to limit contact with possible carriers.

For parents who send their kids to daycare or childcare, avoid doing so for the time being! Whether or not your community has confirmed cases, daycares or childcare are unfortunately prone to the spread of various illnesses because children tend to have a weaker constitution. If necessary, then make sure to have your children undergo a full wash and clean immediately after picking them up.

Practice proper hygiene

We can not stress this enough: maintain proper hygiene! Wash your hands regularly and properly, cover your mouth with a tissue or your elbow when you cough or sneeze, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Regular hygiene is also another simple way to prevent the spread of COVID-19, so having disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizers are a big help to you and your child. Your children and babies can be quite careless regarding this, so make sure to clean their faces, hands, and mouth every once in a while.

A fun way to teach your little precious ones why washing hands stop the spread of germs and viruses:

Stock up on essential supplies

If you have no supplies, then it is best to start stocking up on the basics. Planning to have stocks for at least three weeks of isolation is a good practice. Especially in regards to baby essentials, such as having a little bit of extra formula milk, nappies, and wipes is always vital. Yet, be sure to always check the expiry date! You can also try using washable, reusable nappies to save on stock.

For mothers who think they are infected with COVID-19, it is still safe to breastfeed children, as breastfeeding helps protect babies from a variety of illnesses. If you are having symptoms, however, then ensure to wear a mask and disinfect yourself via washing to avoid passing on the sickness.

For those parents feeding children or babies through bottles or cups, make sure to sanitize and disinfect all implements that go to your children’s hands and mouths. This includes washing your hands before preparing the bottles and using hot water to prepare the formula.

As troubling as everything seems at the moment, the most important point is not to panic. Panicking will only stress you out and cause your children to worry as well. Make sure to take care of yourself as much as you take care of them because parents actually have a higher chance of contracting the virus when compared to kids. As such, do your best to take care of yourself, and ensure to sanitize regularly to avoid any further spread of this virus.
